TAKDE MYKAD = GANTUNG

I met my ex-student for afternoon tea.

We talked about many things; study, school and all the boring stuffs.

Until, I threw a question to him.

"Have you got your mykad?"

"Mmmm... ntahlah sir. Ni lah masalahnya ni. Nada mykad, suma pon tak boleh. Kalu ada ic kan senang, ndaklah gantung macam ni."

Sian dia... masih tadak ic.

True! No mykad is 'gantung', means you can't do anything!

Pity him...

I feel sorry for him. His appearance nowadays can tell that what a huge problem lies ahead him now.

Hello, I also got mykad, you know!!!

My ex-student's case is just one in a million similar cases in Sabah. They were born in  Sabah, both parents are Malaysian, the other sibling hold citizenship, yet, they don't have theirs!

So, how?

These children cannot further their study in tertiary level. They also cannot apply for any vacant to work since application is only opened for Malaysians only. An the end of the day, they stay at home, do nothing!

It's not that they have never tried anything to solve the problem. They had gone to the authorities for many times. Countless officers had they met. Not to mention, thousands ringgit spent just to get citizenship. And the usual reply the got from the officers, "Just wait!" To their vain, nothing was change!

Something has to be done to overcome this problem. Perhaps, the stakeholders need to bring the matter up. The voices from these people need to be heard.

Otherwise, the mykad problem in Sabah remains inconclusive. And who knows, someday, our own kids will face the same difficulty.

We don't want 'gantung', do we?

Help! Help!
